DEAR MAY (LETTERS FROM JUNE)DAY 28 : THOSE WHO FAIL TO LEARN FROM HISTORY...

All of these stories live inside us
And I am tired of reliving them for you.
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
But we have no history,
Other than the one we created with ourselves.
Never not feeling inadequate, devoid of flaws,
I never failed to show this,
Never thought to hide it.
As my hands reached for another in the dark,
He held my heart in his,
Just to prove that he could,
And I never thought to let go,
Never thought to step back,
Never thought to count my breaths.
Thunderclouds pass,
Tears flow
for the memories that hung over heads,
For the moments when time paused and watched from the shadows,
For the seasons when speech was redundant,
When voices were tangible and whole,
Each an identity on its own.
Stories are whispered to eager faces,
Innocent in the moonlight,
We teach them the history we created soundlessly,
And hope against hope
That they learn from ours.
