WHALES AND GNOMES

It was the breeze,
The sweet scent of cotton candy.
It was sunny summer days,
The wind whipping against my face,
As I swung higher and higher.
I closed my eyes,
And touched the sky.

I dipped my toes into the water.
We sailed away,
On our pirate ship,
Eye patches and peg legs.
Splash!
And whales.

We were floating in giggles,
Swimming in laughter,
Balloons and squeaky voices.
Your smile,
Boy, your smile.
Splash!
Whales.

Tulips,
But you liked roses.
Pointed red hats,
Snow white beards,
Gnomes?
Hide and seek,
Toadstools,
Fairies and elves.

Splash!
Whales.
Deep-sea adventure,
Dolphins and mermaids,
SpongeBob and submarines.

Cookies and cocoa,
Rainy days.
Forts and pillow fights,
Blankets and movies.
Silly faces and sleepovers.
Splash!
Whales.

We were seven,
Remember that?
Remember how easy it was to smile?
Splash!
Whales on your walls,
Whales on your covers,
Whales on your PJs.
Splash!
Whales.
